Capitol Theatre

The Capitol Theatre is an authentic re-creation of Edmonton’s original Capitol Theatre - circa 1929 - that once stood on Jasper Avenue at 101 Street. The original theatre’s historic appearance has been captured in this modern recreation that incorporates state-of-the-art A/V, lighting, special effects and stage design in a 4D entertainment environment that tells the story of Edmonton’s development. The theatre hosts atmospheric performances and hand-picked vintage movies but can also be adapted for live theatre and music performances. This new theatre has an intimate seating capacity of 247 seats.

The Capitol Theatre represents the first project completed in the Fort Edmonton Management Company’s extensive five-year masterplan for the park and forms an important addition to the 1920 Street on the park grounds. The design team undertook extensive research on the historic interiors and the brick detailing of the exterior to bring a high degree of historic authenticity to the building while making subtle improvements to the interior to elevate the theatre experience.

Utilizing modern construction methods such as file to fabrication enable through BIM based practices and technologies, design and construction were coordinated to a higher degree of accuracy compared to traditional processes, incorporating facilitation of the necessary technical infrastructure with historical authenticity.
