Watch the video and hear Allan explain in his own words what it was like entering the field of architecture at 18, his lineage relating to the practice of architecture dating back to at least the early 18th Century, the current state of the industry, and what the future may hold. Those considering architecture (or design and construction) as a career, current students, as well as seasoned practitioners will all find this candid presentation valuable.

What had begun as a summer job in 1972 in Ayr, Scotland started Allan Partridge on the path to becoming an architect. He later moved to Sydney, Nova Scotia before finally landing in Edmonton, Alberta where he worked at fulfilling his dream of becoming registered. As an intern, he laboured with and learned from some of the best including Ron Taylor, Barry Johns, Craig Henderson, and Sig Schmidt. Not long after becoming registered, Allan left the firm then known as Schmidt Feldberg Croll Henderson and struck out on his own to form RAP Architecture. 10 years later he rejoined the firm, changing the name to Henderson Inglis Partridge Architects, and later HIP Architects. In 2008 Allan established Next Architecture as a shareholding corporation of HIP, and in 2011 exited HIP continuing to fulfill projects under the Next banner, and ultimately forming it into what it is today.

Allan's career has been full of great design and wonderful experiences, and Next Architecture honours him for the vision and dedicated service he's given to industry, colleagues, family, friends, and the general public. His influence has not only shaped the built environment and the way that buildings are designed and made in Alberta and beyond, he has changed lives for the better and created innumerable cherished memories for those who have crossed paths with him or been fortunate enough to view and explore his work.

August 16th, 2025 marks 40 years of practice as a registered Architect for Allan - having been registered by the Alberta Association of Architects on August 16th, 1985.
